Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. 1976 Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently along with the president Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
